I remember the first time I heard the phrase “The harder I work, the luckier I get”. I was sitting on the Basketball Court of DIII Marymount University in Arlington, VA. A couple dozen of us, Elementary and Middle School aged, ambitious hoopsters, were listening to the staff kickoff a Summer Basketball Camp run by Chuck “Lefty” Driesell. It was a moment of excitement and clarity. I knew, even then, the power of the words I had just heard. We are all subject to probability and chance, yet with hard work and experience, we can improve our odds of positive outcomes.
If you are a gambler or investor, and improving the odds of success is not your primary objective, you will likely not be successful. Even if it is your primary objective, there is no guarantee of success. Once again, we are all subject to the winds of fate. If we put ourselves in the right position to strike at the right opportunities we have done our part. If we fail, so be it. We will repeat the process over, and over, and over again.
I hope the experience and information I share here will help you to that end.
Work Hard, Get Lucky!
